Sick of Criticism You Don't Deserve? Here's How to Silence Your Critics!

B'SD

7 Nisan 5772

I rarely blog on Fridays, but I know that they can be the set-up for some truly lousy weekends. Why?

Bigmouths tend to take their best shots for hurting someone's feelings then. Why is a whole 'nuther story.

So I'm blogging today to
improve your chances for a
better today and tomorrow.

Sad about the sickening things people say to or about you? EMPOWER Yourself with this amusing thought:

"I don't care what is
written about me as long
as it isn't true."
Katherine Hepburn

I can't verify that Kate ever said that, but you can adopt the sentiments all the same. Go for the gusto. Live your life with purpose, decency and fun. Let the liars rot in their pickled worldviews. You don't need to.

Let me know if today's post gives you or someone you know emotional pain relief. Some bon mots are just great for emotional and mental health. Guaranteed!

There's usually a beginning, a muddle and an end to success with some complicated project or other. Health issues qualify as "VERY complicated," whether they're emotional, medical or spiritual, wouldn't you agree?

Perhaps Regina Dugan's TEDTALKS Video can inspire you to ever-greater achievements. Keep your heart and mind focused on the goal. Respect, but do not fear, failure. It just might lead you to an accomplishment or valuable realization.

Looking UP at Down Syndrome

B'SD

2 Nisan 5772

It's two weeks until Passover. Jews worldwide are scrubbing all surfaces touched by food with leavening agents out of their homes. We're preparing for the holiday of matza. The goal is to flatten our sense of self-importance enough to work with GOD's plan for building a compassionate world.

Want to know what's possible when we release our egos, prejudices and doubts?

A Comforting Thought

B'SD

28 Adar 5772

One of the suggestions in EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge is to soothe yourself with music and videos that make your soul soar with happiness and a  sense of hope.

Creation Calls is one such outlet. I hope it helps you past an unhappy moment or two.

I sympathize with your tears and heavy hearts over medical problems. And I know what you can tell to critics who insult your honest emotions: "A medical crisis - you'd cry too, if it happened to you."

Use your tissues and handkerchiefs with my blessings borne of experience. GOD gives you Permission to Weep. You can say that to any critics after explaining, "It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To. GOD said I could. Read page 5 of the book. See?"

As a woman involved in many aspects of helping people to cope with mental/emotional health, spiritual health and physical health issues, I'm deeply impressed with the remarkable insight in the Listening to Shame video.

The lesson is:
Vulnerability and shame

Mood Boosting Strategies that Work!

B'SD

26 Adar 5772

A reporter looking for "Mood boosting Strategies" to round out her article on the topic just received this mesage from me:

"... medical and mental health professionals recommend the mood-boosting messages in It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry If I Need To: EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge. World renown psychiatrist Dr. A. Twerski gives copies to people on chemo and overcoming addictions. He tells me they call him less as the book is so helpful to them. Methodist minister Carl Phillips found the spiritual content 'Right on!'  Rabbis approve of it too. Readers around the world are buying the book and feeling happier for it."

I've even shared those mood boosters in the book with friends in the south of Israel, where terrorists have been bombarding civilians with rockets since March 9th. The tips are indeed helping my acquaintances to cope with their fears and then some.

How to Make a Commitment - and Keep it!

B'SD

25 Adar 5772

Last night I met some of the most remarkable people for audience members on the way to, at, and on my way home from my speaking engagement

Each was a "doer" who'd made significant achievements in their lives. Proud of themselves for staying the course in tough times (widowhood, prejudice, poverty, illness, politics, religious issues), they wanted to hear me speak for one reason: "You and your book are all about how to achieve goals!" one person said. "We've heard  about you," or "We've read about you" remarked other listeners.

I was awed. Before me were people who'd innovated solutions to problems admirably. They had suffered and refused to continue suffering. They had DONE something to end the stalemates they and other people were in.

One woman asked me how I go on with my future, though my vision remains less than what's considered "normal" and that I must compensate for those deficits.

"I refuse to surrender to despair," I replied.

As one listener remarked "That's what all of us have in common. Victims say 'I'll try.' They make some sort of attempt and give up because of difficulties they need to overcome. Leaders say and believe 'I commit to X' and then they do all the hard work to achieve their goals. That's why we want to read your book. It's showing ill people how to achieve their goals."

One woman bought multiple copies for her acquaintances to read!

Born for Greatness!

B'SD

21 Adar 5772

The attacks on Israel have not stopped. I have spent significant amounts of time speaking with affected people, doing what I can to help them to calm down, to cope, and to cry as necessary.

Tears, trembling and sadness have their place in promoting mental/emotional health. As trauma therapist Miriam Maslin teaches, "Wisdom often means letting go of what was in order to make room for what needs to be."

A person who has been traumatized needs the freedom to express their sorrow, their fears, their sense of betrayal, their grief, their loss and everything else on their mind and heavy heart. That helps them to let go of the trauma, to some degree, then to get beyond it to a measure of peace and increasing productivity.

It is a cruelty to tell someone "Stop shaking like that," or to "Stop crying! Get over it already."

Trembling and crying serve some coping purposes:

1) To alert observers to a perceived trauma so that they  can provide needed compassion and assistance. YOUR "it's not a trauma" interpretation of someone else's trauma is not necessarily relevant to the sufferer. In that person's mind and heavy heart, something terrible has happened.

2) To quite literally help the suffering person to release their fear, shock, and other negative reactions, so that they can return to a relatively calm state again.

Trembling and tears are specific signs of emotional turmoil. The person trembling and/or crying needs compassion, not dismissive remarks and behaviors.

There is significant psychological evidence of the above. It is presented in case studies and other materials within the mental health world.

There is also significant evidence that people who can envision themselves overcoming problems do overcome those issues.

If you want to consider the fact that you were born to rise above your problems, born for greatness, this tune just might make you smile with wonder and happiness: Born for Greatness!

Facts of Life

B'SD

20 Adar 5772

The facts of life in Israel are frightening. The newest barrage of missiles sent from Gaza to Israel (AFTER Ariel Sharon gifted Gazans with our Gush Katif in 2005) started this past Shabbat after Shushan Purim - the day following Purim for everyone outside walled cities.

A mixture of more than 200 grads, kassams and other dangerous WMDs have hit Israel since then. 80 missiles have landed since this past Friday.

If your mainstream news media are not reporting the reality that Israel's Jews are under siege, they are withholding factual information from you. Ask yourselves why. The answer is deadly serious.

People are wounded, traumatized and suffering in many ways. Some Israelis are clinging to the calming words in EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge. And finding solutions to their medical costs inside. Imagine what the book can do for you.

Please join our prayers for enduring peace and safety.

We Need Your Prayers!

B'SD

18 Adar 5772

I haven't blogged between Purim and today as I've been immersed in prayers for peace. I hope you'll join me.

Israel is under siege, and has been since late Purim day. Over 140 rockets, kassams, grad missles, whatever you care to call the WMDs, have landed throughout southern Israel until about an hour ago.

A school building for Jewish children

was obliterated.
Cars have been destroyed, etc.
Lives deeply affected.

Did your arguably irresponsible

news media personnel
inform you of the new

Siege Upon Israel?
No? Hmmm...

What's in it for them
to be silent on this

genocidal effort matter?

No fair and balanced reporting
during what was
an internationally heralded

ceasefire?

Arabs just reload during ceasefires, then fire at will.
The documented evidence exists for all to study.

The Palestinians had promised a ceasefire. As always, they used the lull in the fighting to reload. What are Israelis focusing on now?

Please pray for the safety of Israel's Jews. We have been fighting to remain alive since the days of Abraham.

Calm down as best you can with tips from the E-book or print edition of EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge. And keep praying for genuine peace! Pray for the peace of Jerusalem and all of Israel.

Why the Blazes Do You Pray?

B'SD

12 Adar 5772

One of the topics addressed in

is prayer. In my live appearances I speak about the surprising effect that someone else's unknown-to-me prayers had upon my recovery. It's a rather shocking turn of events. It caught an already religious me by BIG surprise!

But praying can seem
distasteful, even repulsive,
to some people.

When a person experiences unremitting suffering, pain and heartache, praying can seem to be a cruel concept.  Ill and disabled people might wonder "Why should I pray? Doesn't GOD know how and what I feel already? I mean c'mon, what kind of GOD is it if S/he can't figure me out?"

But we're supposed to pray. Why?

To help ourselves to figure out what we need. Suffering can lead to confused thinking, or result from it. Prayer is a private audience with the Creator. Spend time in it. Speak your heart out; pour on the anger, shame, sadness and fear. Explore possible solutions. Ask for those you can't even imagine. Hone in on what's truly important to you. And say thanks for things going right. You could be in for some surprises.

Be sure to share those thoughts with people you trust. The results can be life-saving in many more ways than you presently imagine.

Go ahead. Read pages 4, 5, 6, page 36's Shore Up Your Spirituality and other pages. Look for the book's License to Cry, too. Tears are a form of prayer. I explain all that in EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge

Buy the E-book or print edition today for a brighter day and rest of your life. May your prayers be answered to your benefit

Here's a Health Book that's EASY to Understand Even if English isn't Your Mother Tongue!

B'SD

10 Adar 5772

From time to time people contact me to ask if Hebrew-speakers would be able to understand

My answer is an enthusiastic "YES!" I wrote the book to meet the needs of a wide variety of people. It sells all over Europe, where people do not necessarily speak English as their mother tongue.

EMPOWER Yourself is meant to be shared with your loved ones, friends and/or doctors and therapists. It puts you in increasing control of your medical, disability and mental health situation. That's why so many medical and mental health professionals endorse the book or recommend it to patients.

Find out how to:

1. Remember the names and
contact information
of doctors with names
you can't pronounce

2. Sort out confusing details
with your medical
appointments schedule

3. Communicate important ideas
if you find it difficult
to speak with people

There's so much more between the covers to help English and non-English speakers in EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge. It breaks language barriers.
