Eating Your Way to Better Health

24-25 Nisan 5768

(I apologize for the snafu that messed up my recent posts. Some have not appeared and I'm trying to catch up with corrections. YG)

Global economies are worsening,
especially America's. How does THAT relate to my book about coping with medical crises? Read on!

The "RESOURCES" section of my book includes references to alternative healing method practitoners. They often advise people to eat organic produce. It superbly nourishes the human body without the need for pill-popping vitamin supplements.

Herbs grow well in windowsill pots. They need little care.

It's rather simple to grow delicious tomatoes, strawberries, squashes and other good stuff in yards or on rooftop gardens.

The charming sight of all that natural beauty is good for body and soul. And it can significantly save wear and tear on your wallet. Just add group effort, a little ingenuity, soil, and a good trowel to your efforts.

Skeptical that you'll benefit from the hard work of home-grown foods? Consider this: my orthopedic surgeon (remember my broken arm/hand adventure back in December?) commented that notwithstanding the fractures, my bones and muscles are comparable to those of a very healthy woman HALF my age! Hmmm, I happen to eat an all-organic diet...

Happy gardening!

Doctor this post is for you and, most importantly, for your interested patients.

HORMONE HELPLINE: The BHRT SUMMIT

Want to help your patients to successfully reduce their waistlines? Care to inform them that they can toss that Viagra into the trash and to function at full power without it? Interested in ending the prospect of PMS and hot flashes for female patients? Eager to resolve other hormonally-related problems simply, permanently, and without synthetic drugs?

A journalist in addition to being an author, I often write about good news in the medical world: innovations, successes, cutting-edge practitioners/ methodologies, etc. Dr. Joel Yaffa is one of the doctors listed in the "RESOURCES" section of my book. He recently made me aware of an unusual opportunity to improve the treatment of hormonally-based health problems and I'm sharing it with you.

The
BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY SUMMIT Internet event is scheduled for this coming May 14 to 29 2008. I recommend that you sign up for it. I know the summit organizer Dr. Joel Yaffa to be a superb physician and remarkable educator. I’ve interviewed him and some of his clients for past news stories.

The BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY SUMMIT will inform lay and professional participants of non-invasive, biologically compatible solutions that solve hormonally-based problems. BHRT ends lingering hormonal problems and the need for protracted medical interventions.

Dr. Yaffa's Brief Biography, in his own words (BTW, he's listed in the "RESOURCES" setion of my book) – "I switched over from ‘conventional’ medicine to ‘alternative’ medicine 10 years ago, when my son was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. I saw that parents from the Far East came to Sloan Kettering for their children's treatments, sneaking herbs and potions into their kids when the oncologist wasn't looking. I began my search to compliment my son's care (against medical advice). My son, thank G-d is now 13 years old.

"My full-time BHRT practice in Israel is a direct result of that experience. I'm the only physician in Israel practicing with BHRT (talk about solo practice). There are presently 12 compounders in Israel filling my prescriptions.

"Though I have been interviewed many times in the main Israeli newspapers and magazines and interviewed on television about BHRT, the vast majority of the local population is still unaware of the choices available for them. My best advertisement so far has been word-of-mouth from ecstatic patients. My BHRT colleagues in the States concur: it is a struggle to get the word out. So I decided to organize an internet educational seminar to be given by the experts on the subjects that people need to hear about, in language that they can understand (simple English in this case). This enables...

1. … more people to easily learn about helping themselves with a more healthful approach than they’ve used previously. Large numbers of people can easily access the online program instead of being limited to scheduling or traveling problems. The program can be repeated with different speakers and different topics every 3-4 months.

2. … doctors to build their patient base rather easily. As current patients of practicing BHRT doctors feel validated by hearing experts corroborate what their personal physician has told them, they will be happy to share this reliable, easily obtained information with their families and friends, thereby increasing the numbers of patients who are looking for these services.

3. … participating physicians (approximately 3,500 are registered at present) who are excited to be sending the "World BHRT Summit" to link to their patient base as desired. Professional organizations for doctors, pharmacists and neutraceutical companies can do the same.

A GLOWING Review!

1 Nisan 5768

Psychologist Dr. Lisa Aiken wrote words of praise on my book cover. On March 7 2008, her GLOWING BOOK REVIEW appeared in the internationally distributed
Jewish Press (Brooklyn, NY). Read Dr. Aiken's copyright-protected* thoughts right here:

"It's My Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To" (Booklocker, 2007) is a remarkable book authored by Yocheved Golani. Ms. Golani offers readers a positive, refreshing approach for helping our loved ones or ourselves to overcome medical challenges. Using her remarkable, personal experiences of coping with a life-threatening brain tumor, she gives readers helpful strategies and a panoply of resources for fighting medical illness. She underscores the importance of maintaining a positive mood in order to regain one's health, something that journalist Norman Cousins brought to the American eye in his bestseller, Anatomy of an Illness as Perceived by the Patient. She gives readers a toolbox for transforming an onslaught of negative emotions into positive ones, and for keeping negative people at bay. Without being Pollyannish, she offers a combination of practical, emotional and spiritual advice to those whose prognosis may be grim, and whose day-to-day lives may seem overwhelming. For example, she gives the reader license to cry, rather than fulfilling the societal expectation of "Be strong!" Yet, she also counsels that we use tears to do more than simply wallow in self-pity. We can use them to open the Gates of Prayer, as a means of communicating with the Almighty, and to strengthen our bond with the One who brought the illness in the first place. Through honestly confronting the question of "Why me?", we can also benefit from the spiritual purpose that illness can serve. We can then ask the Master of the World to help us transform ourselves into the spiritually-developed people that we were meant to be through experiencing these challenges. As Rabbi Avraham Jacobovitz is quoted in her book, "It matters how we handle the road, how hard we work to reach our goals. The struggle is what makes us worthwhile."

Ms. Golani's insightful and uplifting book guides us to confront illness in a multi-modal fashion. She advocates using all resources at our disposal—humor, creating a positive emotional environment, self-nurturing, friends, outside resources, medical and alternative practitioners—to fight illness. She gives excellent advice as to how we can build and preserve good morale, get help when we need it, stay organized with appointments, medication protocols, bills, and the like, prepare for hospitalization, and focus on our blessings and getting better.

A significant portion of this 113-page book gives Resources. This includes contact information about organizations and treatment centers that deal with specific medical problems. It also includes abundant resources that most people wouldn't know how to find, including compassionate clowns, how to find an observant mental health professional, services for blind people, information about neurological disorders, where to get free medical care and medications, and where to enroll in clinical trials.

In short, "It's My Crisis!" does a masterful job offering the reader practical recommendations, emotionally-uplifting advice, medical resources, and spiritual guidance to face, and hopefully overcome, medical illness. In the process, she inspires us to transform ourselves into better spiritual and emotional beings.

Wanna Learn to CHANGE Your Brain, Shut Off Pain and/or Tremors?

27 Adar Bet 5768

Dr. Christopher Charms is one of several scientists developing an investigational technology for looking into the brain, particularly your own, and then programming it at will.

A Functional MRI-based technique, it can enable persons with neuropathy (severe pain) to reduce their suffering. It will allow someone with mental anguish to feel joy instead, and facilitate lots of other productive decisions/actions. It is a potential tool for enabling some paralyzed people to move at will.

Want to train your brain for optimum performance just as weightlifters build their muscles?

Shore up your understanding of free will by reading Buddhist philosophy about the mind ("The Places that Scare You" is my personal suggestion) and ANYTHING written by Rebbe Nachman of Breslav (a centuries-ago Jewish scholar who influences Judaic philosophy to this very moment). Then see
Control Your Brain

The Functional MRI technique has its critics, but the future awaits the refinement of potential fMRI flaws and the improvement of human health.

BTW, I know to expect some flak from a few of my readers because I suggested Buddhist reading material. Consider that suggestion to be my far-flung invitation to some readers who can now try to realize that when Biblical Abraham sent his children EAST, they carried teachings based on the Jewish Torah with them. Over time, these philosophies, bodies of knowledge and practices became diluted by political pressures, personal imperfections (greed among them) and simple forgetfulness. The origins of many eastern mindsets are actually based upon Judaism.

OK, back to the physical-emotional health purpose of my blog. For more promising news, check out this Israel 21 C video for a brief glimpse about how to overcome the tremors of Parkinson's Disease and to use your limbs effectively:
